Carlos Sainz left it late in the afternoon session today but doing so picked the perfect time to blow the rest of the field away and finish 4 tenths clear of the chasing pack.
The session got off to a slow start as after 1 hour only half the field had completed a lap. Tech1 drivers were one of the teams who sent their drivers out posting quick times and all 4 of them were in the top 7, Javier Tarancon being the quickest. 1'45"80.
With 1.5 hours complete the Koiranen Motorsport drivers came out and went straight into the top 10 with Carlos Sainz going quickest 0.004 ahead of Tarancon and Daniil Kyvat 4th (+0.18)
2 hours down and Karl Oscar Liiv came out for a 6 lap run and managed to beat Sainz on just his 3rd lap with a 1'45"64.
Timmy hansen moved upto 2nd, half an hour later splitting team mates Oscar Liiv and Sainz, before going on to pip Liiv by just 0.01 moving to P1.
45minutes to go Tech1 duo of Weckstrom and Loup Chatin took over at the front.
So it was tech1 cars 1st and 2nd and Koiranen Motorsport cars 3rd and 4th.
Robin Frijns smashed the 1'45 barrier going 4 tenths quicker than closet rival Tarancon 1'44"75 soon after.
Alex Riberas hit the barrier at turn 4 with 15 minutes to go bringing out the red flags with Tech1 and Koiranen controlling the top of the order having 6 of the top 10 cars between them.
After the restart Sainz went out and on his 2nd lap was less than a tenth behind Frijns before "going purple" in all 3 sectors to blow Frijns time away and move 4 tenths clear of the Swede as the chequered flag flew.
Frijns time of 1'34"96 set this morning was quickest of the 2 days.
