Formula JK Racing Asia Series pre-season testing

Sepang was the venue last week for the newly named Formula JK Racing Asia Series (formerly FBMW Pacific) collective test. With less than a month until the first race at sepang (8-10 April) where the F1 eyes will be watching, teams have been eager to complete as many laps as possible this pre-season as hankook have taken over from Michelin, who were involved since 2003, as the sole tyre supplier for the championship.
With a change of tyre supplier there was potential for a shake up in the time sheet order with the possibility of all set ups and data being rendered useless but it seems the same teams are at the front leading the way. This season sees a few drivers returning to the series to try and build on the experience gained from last season and mount a proper title challenge, but sixteen year old Austrian rookie Lucas Auer in his Eurointernational prepared car was the only driver to go under the 2' 11 mark and topped the times sheets by a full half second over his nearest challenger Malaysian Afiq Ikhwan (above) in the Meritus car followed closely by Petronas sponsored Freddie Ang in his Mofaz Racing machine.

Formula JK Racing Asia Series this season will be contested over 18 rounds at 6 events with 3 events being held as support for F1 (Malaysia, Singapore and India). The cancellation of the Korea event means the series will once again make the journey to Guangdong (China) with the other 2 events being held at Sepang (Malaysia) and Sentul (Indonesia) under the AFOS banner. Yet to be confirmed is a final round of the series which is likely to be a showpiece event in Macao.
